2021: a record year for BCT

 MSC’s Cape Akritas currently holds the record for the largest capacity vessel to call the Port of Gdynia 

Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) closed the previous year on high note after setting a record for the total number of containers handled in a single year.

Despite a very difficult period for global logistics, BCT managed to surpass its previous TEU record and handle its strongest December volume in 2021. 

A major factor that contributed to the volume growth is the increasing transshipment. BCT handles transshipments more efficiently thanks to the INCOS system, which was designed to improve the operation of intermodal trains.

Rail traffic accounts for 30 percent of BCT’s annual throughput. The terminal currently processes 250 intermodal trains – run by 13 separate operators – each month. For 2022, BCT looks to connect to its landlocked neighbors – the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

Aside from the record volumes, BCT also achieved another milestone with the handling of MSC’s Cape Akritas last December. The 11,037-TEU boxship set the record for the largest capacity ship to dock at the Port of Gdynia, breaking the previous record set by the 10,600 TEU capacity Cap San Juan in 2019.
