AGCT welcomes 200th full-time employee

Adriatic Gate Container Terminal welcomed its two-hundredth employee along with six other new hires in March, bringing its manpower count to 206 full-time employees and more than 250 workers in total including subcontractors.

“Based on our positive projections for the Port of Rijeka, we are continuing to grow our workforce. Since mid 2019, we have added 37 employees and provided new employment opportunities in the City of Rijeka and Croatia,” said Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT chief executive officer.

He added: “After passing the 300,000 TEU milestone, we continue to handle growing volumes. The first two months of 2022 have been exceptionally strong with over 30 percent growth. This is a result we are extremely proud of during a time of many challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The dedication of all our hard-working employees have allowed us to overcome these challenges.”

“With volume growth, new employment opportunities open. Since the start of this year, we have had a new wave of employment in our company and because of the volume increase, we plan to introduce a regular third shift starting April,” explained Ivana Forenbaher, AGCT HRD manager.

Back in 2011 when ICTSI assumed the operation of AGCT, the company only had 100 direct employees. The company is pleased to see the continuous creation of employment opportunities through the continuous growth of its customer base, backed up by investment in state-of-the-art handling equipment and IT systems.

Through cooperation with the local community and the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Rijeka and other higher education institutions in the logistics field, AGCT actively contributes to the development of a new niche in the industry. Aside from providing regular student internship opportunities, AGCT has also become a partner in the PANDORA Project led by University of Rijeka, Faculty of Maritime Studies.

AGCT announced its cooperation with the Maritime School of Bakar earlier this year to form a new program that will provide training for new port operators. The program is scheduled for launch in 2023 and will ensure that Rijeka maintains its position as a leading maritime education center in Croatia and Southeast Europe.
