ICTSI Global HSSE holds professional event investigation training

Creating a safe work environment by preventing injuries, illnesses and loss of lives in the workplace remains one of the most important goals across ICTSI terminals worldwide. One way to achieve this goal is by implementing an effective incident investigation process that uses a proven, well-structured root cause analysis method that is specifically tailored for the industry.

In relation to this, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) heads and representatives across the ICTSI Group underwent a Professional Event Investigation (PEI) virtual training from July 21 to 29 and from September 11 to 17.

Organized and facilitated by ICTSI Global HSSE in partnership with Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the PEI training was designed to enhance and update the HSE skills and knowledge of the Group’s HSE personnel in conducting incident instigations. It was also aimed to equip them with a root cause analysis tool for use in the investigation process.

Commenting on his experience in facilitating the training for ICTSI, DNV facilitator Eric Roos said: “In my 20 plus years of experience in delivering this kind of training, this is the most diverse and most active set of participants I have ever handled. It’s been a pleasure delivering this training for ICTSI.”

The Systematic Cause Analysis Technique version 9 (SCAT 9) is a powerful tool that allows investigation teams to uncover root causes of an incident so that the most appropriate and fit-for-purpose mitigating controls can be developed to prevent the same incident from recurring.

SCAT 9 is the latest version of the widely used methodology for structured incident analysis that incorporates DNV’s Loss Causation Model. ICTSI Global HSSE acquired the license for this tool, enabling all ICTSI terminals to utilize this method.

 
Originally designed to be conducted face-to-face over a three-day period, the training was held virtually considering pandemic restrictions.
