Studies show that employees are more likely to be satisfied with their jobs if they work for an organization that contributes to and participates in environmental protection and conservation. Two such organizations are International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) and its local subsidiary Mindanao container Terminal (MCT) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

Recently, MCT, in collaboration with the ICTSI Foundation, entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Provincial Environment and Natural Resource Office (DENR-PENRO) Region X for a tree-growing project. Under the MOA, MCT and the ICTSI Foundation will plant trees and manage a one-hectare area within the Malasag Reforestation Project in line with the country’s National Greening Program. The project is one of MCT’s several CSR projects lined up in partnership with the ICTSI Foundation.

The MCT Tree-Growing Project is a three-year endeavor that aims to contribute to reforestation and biodiversity preservation. It likewise seeks to raise environment protection awareness not only among MCT employees but also among their family members and the larger community.

On June 24, MCT employees and their families planted 1,200 seedlings. The activity was made part of MCT’s 14th anniversary celebration.

Aside from planting various indigenous and fruit-bearing trees in the area assigned by the DENR PENRO, MCT will periodically visit the site.  This will be undertaken by alternating groups of MCT employee-volunteers to monitor and ensure that the planted seedlings get the needed nurturing to survive and grow into full-grown sturdy trees.
