TecPlata hosts conference on gender equality

TecPlata hosted a conference on gender equality on March 28 in celebration of Women’s Month.

Entitled “Reflection and Awareness on the Perspectives and Challenges in Approaching Gender Equality in the Workplace,” the event provided a platform for women from the public and private sectors to share their views on the challenges and opportunities of the gender agenda in the workplace, specifically across the port industry. 

Bruno Porchietto, TecPlata chief executive officer, and José María Lojo, Puerto La Plata president, presented and signed the Gender Protocol that will be implemented in the terminal to protect the rights of female employees.

While acknowledging the male-dominated work environment in the port sector, Mr. Porchietto said that TecPlata is working to generate opportunities for women.  He emphasized that the signed protocol is an important tool “not only for job development but also for anyone who feels discriminated to report the situation and feel protected.”

“The world has made progress in recognizing women’s rights, but there is still a long way to go. They still do not have the same job opportunities,” explained Mr. Porchietto.

Mr. Lojo added:  “We must break down the barriers with concrete actions.  We are clear about the objective of generating equal opportunities for all genders and it is a challenge that we decided to take on. We are working to increase the participation of women in leadership, management and workspaces.” He is confident that they are working firmly towards the goal with the support of the Buenos Aires government.

During the panel discussion, Lorena Mack, TecPlata Human Resources Director, pointed out that TecPlata is working on this issue starting from personnel recruitment to training, promotion and job development:  “I can proudly say that there are many women in the company and that we are moving towards integration in the dock operation where there are already two women working.  We want to encourage more.” 
 
Aside from port authority representatives, Puerto La Plata and TecPlata wokers, also in attendance were Fabián Cagliardi, Berisso City mayor; and speakers Jésica Aspis, Buenos Aires Port Planning and Infrastructure provincial director; Patricia Jermoli Hand, River Maritime Control of the National Directorate of Migrations director; Laurana Malacalza, Argentinian Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity undersecretary for Comprehensive approach to Gender-Based Violence; Ana Inés Juárez, National Directorate of Migrations area head for Implementation of Migration Policies with a Gender Perspective; Flavia Marina Delmas, Buenos Aires Ministry of Women, Gender Policies and Sexual Diversity undersecretary of Policies against Violence for Gender Reasons; and Ariel Archanco, provincial deputy.

Mr. Cagliardi expressed his satisfaction with the conference and recognized that progress is being made despite the more difficult situations in some professions. Through a municipal decree, the mayor recognized Belén Delvalle, TecPlata Institutional and Corporate Social Responsibility manager, for her permanent contributions to the well-being of the Berisso community since 2020.
