BGT East receives first Yang Ming vessel

Following the opening of two new berths last year, BGT East serviced its first Yang Ming vessel–YM Green.

The 5,551-TEU boxship berthed at BGT East on 13 April and departed after completing 1,297 moves in 18 hours.  BGT achieved an average of 72 moves per hour during the call, due largely to the superb teamwork among the staff.

Equipped with three post-Panamax quay cranes–considered to be the largest port equipment in Iraq-- BGT East is more than capable of handling up to 12,000-TEU vessels.  These cranes allow the terminal to perform more efficient cargo operations and achieve higher productivity, which in turn allow shipping lines to reduce operational costs.

BGT’s latest infrastructure and equipment investments reaffirms the Company’s commitment to set the standard of port operation in Iraq and provide customers with the highest level of service.
