CGSA gets 20-year concession extension

Contecon Guayaquil SA (CGSA) recently signed a contract with Autoridad Portuaria de Guayaquil to extend its concession in Ecuador for another 20 years.

CGSA, which started commercial operations at the Port of Guayaquil in 2007, will continue to operate the port’s container and multipurpose terminals until 31 December 2046.  The original concession was up to 31 July 2027.  

The extension, granted last December, allows CGSA to further strengthen the position of the Port of Guayaquil as a world-class port and the country’s primary trade gateway and to continue offering superior services in aid of national growth.

In 2019, CGSA set a new standard in Ecuador by becoming the first port in the country to handle 10,500-TEU Neopanamax boxships.  

The Company also took the lead in establishing the Logistics Community of Port of Guayaquil (LCPG), which serves a platform to unite stakeholders and optimize logistics capabilities within the supply chain.  This led to the launch of the first transport insurance program for exporters of banana, one of Ecuador’s most prized export commodity.

Apart from improving the business aspect of its operation, the Company also made huge strides to lessen its environmental impact by becoming the first port in Latin America to obtain carbon-neutral certification.
