CMSA records highest monthly volume as imports surge
Contecon Manzanillo (CMSA) recorded its highest monthly volume in February, servicing a total of 41 container vessels.
Despite the prevailing uncertainty in the container market over the COVID-19 pandemic, the last weeks of 2020 and first weeks of 2021 saw CMSA handle a significant increase in import shipments. Imports for January increased by 19.63 percent over the average import volume.
CMSA saw an increase of import transactions by 55 percent in the first quarter of 2021, maxing out Customs’ capacity.
"We continue to receive a significant number of import volume above forecasts, which generates high density in the terminal yard and impacts loading appointments to SPF," CMSA said in a statement.
CMSA recommended rail transport service as a viable option that “would greatly help reduce the impact of the increase in volume at this or any port terminal,” in addition to advising customers to plan their transactions accordingly for better coordination with the terminal.
Despite the current circumstances, Contecon Manzanillo continues to step up in providing world-class service to customers while upholding the highest security standards for the safety of cargo, employees, and stakeholders at the port.
