ICTSI aids MICT community stakeholders
The COVID-19 pandemic has serious socio-economic impact on daily wage earners like tricycle drivers and operators. The enhanced community quarantine, which was recently lifted to general community quarantine, halted the operation of public utility vehicles and left both drivers and operators with zero income.
While majority of affected tricycle drivers and operators availed of the Department of Labor and Employment’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (livelihood assistance for disadvantaged/displaced workers) Program, the one-time cash assistance was not enough to support the affected families’ daily living expenses throughout the duration of the quarantine period.
To help tricycle drivers and operators in the Parola community, the ICTSI Sustainability and Development Unit distributed 560 sacks of rice (each sack contains 5 kilos) to members of two tricycle operators and drivers associations: Parola TODA received 246 sacks of rice, while ASPT TODA received 300 sacks of rice. The remaining 14 sacks were given to members of the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau’s Taskforce Parola.

Aside from helping tricycle drivers and operators, the ICTSI Sustainability and Development Unit also donated 580 food packs to families with active or probable cases of COVID-19 in Barangay 20 through Chairman Bryan Mondejar.
Another 246 family food packs were turned over to Barangay 275 through Chairman Willie Masakayan, who allocated the food packs for the barangay’s volunteer frontline staff and regular barangay workers who were not included in any of the government’s subsidy programs.
