VICT expands automated equipment fleet with AutoShuttles
Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) has placed an order for six Kalmar AutoShuttles as part of its capacity expansion program. Scheduled for delivery towards the end of the year, the equipment order will expand VICT’s AutoShuttle fleet to 17 units.
“We look forward to the arrival and commissioning of the new AutoShuttles, allowing for increased productivity across the automated apron, with greater flexibility for maintenance outages,” said Jon Wheeler, VICT Chief Operating Officer.
Daniel Ho, Kalmar Vice President, Sales, Asia-Pacific, said “The latest delivery will help VICT to continue to leverage maximum value from their automated solutions. Furthermore, our ability to supply fully erected and tested machines will ensure they can start adding value for the customer immediately with negligible disruption to their operations.”
The operations of Australia’s first fully automated container terminal are powered by the Kalmar One Automation System, a complete end-to-end system that combines Kalmar automated equipment and pre-integrated and tested software solution.
The OneTerminal deployment at VICT includes a Kalmar Automatic Stack Crane (ASC) system that comprises 20 ASCs, 11 Kalmar AutoShuttles, Kalmar Automated Truck Handling, the Kalmar Terminal Logistics System, and Navis’ N4 Terminal Operating System.
Last year, VICT showcased its high level of operational efficiency by setting new records with the handling of CMA CGM Ural–the largest capacity boxship to dock in Melbourne, and achieving the highest container exchange in Australia. This month, the terminal welcomed Soroe Maersk–the longest vessel to call the Port of Melbourne.
With a capacity of more than one million TEUs, VICT is the only container terminal in Melbourne capable of servicing the largest existing and next-class vessels on trade without navigation and berthing restrictions.
