VICT wins environmental award anew
Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) has again received praise for its ACC wash bay, a purpose-built facility for the washing of the terminal’s automatic container carriers and other portable port equipment.
The 2020 Daily Cargo News (DCN) Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards conferred the Environmental Award to VICT for creating an environmentally sensitive solution that allows the terminal to wash the ACCs and other port equipment without the risk of contaminating the port’s surroundings.

In addition to eliminating the overspray of chemicals, all the water used in the wash bay are processed by the in-house treatment plant and recycled for use in the next wash. This allows VICT to reduce water consumption and trade waste costs for contaminated water.
With the wash bay initiative and other measures like installation of LED lighting systems at the terminal, VICT is doing well above and beyond what is necessary to comply with environmental standards.
Meanwhile, Nikki Mading, VICT Operations, Berth, and Vessel Manager, was a runner-up for the Women in Shipping & Maritime Logistics Award. Nikki was commended for being a great example of women leading the way in Australia’s maritime and shipping sectors. She was instrumental in working with ANL last year on safely servicing the CMA CGM Ural, the largest box ship to call the Port of Melbourne.
